Manifesto of a Canadian Woman Or “I’m Mad as Hell and I’m Not Going to Take it Anymore”

I’ve had it. That’s it. Enough. This is my declaration of independence, my intent on living life on my terms, not terms dictated by a society built on hypocrisy, a society bereft of intellect, morals and ethics. A “civilization” of entitlement and self-pity.

Get stuffed.

I’m tired of listening to your whining and moaning about how tough life is. It is always the same goddam refrain. Should tell you something, don’t you think? Like perhaps your decision making skills are less than they should be? Job sucks, yeah..so? Don’t they all? We are, after all, toiling away to keep someone else in wine and roses. That’s our choice. That’s the way of our society. And it is a helluva lot better than the current option available in Syria, Sudan and a good part of the rest of this world.

I saw one individual, unclear on a concept, comment about CEO’s taking a pay cut to fund employees. That, in my world, is a face palm. A CEO taking a pay cut. First, it shows an absolute ignorance of the corporate structure. Never mind the inanity of expecting someone who is in the business of creating a positive fiscal quarter to give away the money he/she has earned in that role. A CEO doesn’t own the company, a CEO has bosses as well, they are called “shareholders” – big word, I know…

Corporations are not charitable ventures, corporations are not living beings. Corporations are things. Things that house other things. The corporation runs because of the people involved and they aren’t in it for good will to men. They are in it to make money. Don’t like it? Want them to help out? The only way they’ll help out is if a decision lies before the board, and it offers something positive in tangible gains will that happen. You don’t think Avon is involved with the breast cancer campaign because they are warm and fuzzy do you? If you do? Then you deserve every future corporate screwing that lies in wait for anyone that naïve.

Where, oh please tell me where, it is part of the human condition to have “rights?” I am not talking about some government created piece of paper designed to keep the sheep in line and feeling all secure and safe … I am talking about reality. If the shit hits the fan and some sort of huge catastrophe occurs whereby all authority is hiding under their beds or on some safe little tropical hideaway? Do you really think that they will come out to make sure your “rights” are protected?

You don’t have the right to anything. There are no rights. When push comes to shove, it is survival. Survival of self and family.

You are working your ass off for the benefit of someone else; that’s the way of it and that’s the way it’s been since the dawn of recorded time.

The government HAS to provide certain services – well, no actually, they don’t. What’s the worst that could happen if they provided less than adequate service? Nothing. Voted out and the next crop of opportunistic pigs at the public trough get in. That’s it, that’s all.

Get over it. This is reality. Santa Claus is not real and neither is the government or corporations responsible for your well-being and overall happy, fuzziness.

I am not here to worry about whether or not your wittle bitty feewings are hurt. I have my responsibilities and they are pretty well defined. They don’t include dealing with moaning, whining and complaining by people who can’t see that their issues are internal, not external.

There is no “great being” looking out for you. What, the hell, is going on in your mind to believe that whopper? Why are you any more special than the child dying on the side of the road in Afghanistan or Ethiopia? Get over yourself. You are no better and probably a lot worse than most. Get a grip. There is no god, never has been, never will be.

Gods, Goddesses, Gaia are archetypes, man/woman made creations – we’ve created the damn things because over time we can’t seem to get a grip on reality, it’s too “scarewy”. Hitler, Stalin, Bundy, Gacy and Olsen are not writhing in the flames of some imaginary hell, they have not been reincarnated as dung beetles. They are dust. Gone, distant and bad memories. They are not being punished. Just as great-aunt Gertrude, saviour of alley cats, is dust. She isn’t up on some cloud with a harp and a choir to back her up. We live, we struggle to survive and we die. So does the cockroach and the fruit fly. We aren’t all that special – hate to break it to you.

We do, however, have the choice to make our lives what we want them to be. We have the choice to blame everyone else for our problems, blame anyone else for a portion of our problems or we can suck it up, figure out where we fucked up and create something better.

Don’t like your life? Change it. Don’t like your job? Change that too.

And you won’t be able to do that, reading this post online. You will never make the changes if you spend your day Tweeting and posting.

Understand that your neighbour, your government and your company is not, in any way, shape or form, responsible for your happiness or your misery. That’s on you, my friends and neighbours. Totally on you.

So much for the long winded preamble.

Here it is:

I don’t have to be kind or nice because I’m a woman, a mother, a wife. If you are being an asshat? And expect me to pat you on the back and tell you everything is okey-dokey and the world sucks? Don’t hold your breath.

Don’t tell me that you are there for me when I need a hand, just because it makes you look good in someone else’s eyes because there are far too many of you and you are apt to get a nasty surprise the next time you offer up that self-serving crap.

My life is busy, it is complicated and it is extremely stressful and that is my choice. It is also my choice to tell you to go take a flying freakin’ leap if I don’t choose to take on your problems. Someone keeps screwing you over? That’s your fault and it’s up to you to figure out a solution and it ain’t brain surgery.

Not enough money to keep your in chips and pop? Re-assess your lifestyle and shut up.

Keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over? That ain’t my problem. Figure it out. I have my shit to deal with, thank you. I don’t need yours.

This is my life and I’m well the way down the other side of the hill. I don’t feel I have time to waste anymore. I have a life to live, I want to bid this world good bye feeling like I did the best with it that I could do. Your life is your responsibility. I would advise, and this is my last piece of advice, get your shit together.
